Members of the Pontifical Missionary Childhood (PMC) within the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Units, Bases and Formations congregated at the St. Peter & Paul Cathedral, in Defence Headquarters, Nairobi, for their annual mass. The mass was presided over by the Bishop of the Military Ordinariate of Kenya, Rt. Rev Wallace Ng’ang’a.
The PMC initiative, under the motto “Children Helping Children,” showcased the unique role of children in the life of church and underscored the importance of nurturing missionary consciousness from an early age. It also highlighted the vital role of prayer and charity in living out the mission of the PMC, reinforcing the call for young faithful to be beacons of hope in their communities.
In his homily Bishop Wallace encouraged the children to bring hope to their fellow children by engaging in acts of charity, especially during this Jubilee Year of Hope. He also encouraged the young missionaries to remain prayerful while reminding them that in times of challenge, faith in God provides strength, and the closer they draw to Him, the more He nourishes them with His goodness.
“You are not too young to be missionaries. In your schools, homes, and even within the community, you can share Jesus’ love and be the light that leads others to Him.”
He also praised the efforts of KDF chaplains, catechists and the PMC animators who work tirelessly to instil moral and spiritual values in children through offering consistent spirituality programs.
Also at the event, Bishop Wallace led in a solemn moment of silence and a symbolic lighting of 12 candles reflecting the 12 years of the late Pope Francis papacy. He concluded with a prayer for the repose of the Pope’s soul.
The PMC annual Mass serves as a reminder of the Church’s commitment to the spiritual development of children, fostering a sense of community and shared responsibility among the faithful.
