On December 5, 2024, the 3 Kenya Rifles (3KR), led by Unit Commanding Officer (CO) Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Geoffrey Ndung’u, visited retired Warrant Officer Class 1 (WO1) Dismas Masila Mbuko at his home in Matuu, Machakos County, as part of the Unit’s welfare program.
Though the visit took place at WO1 (Rtd) Mbuko’s home, it provided an opportunity for retired officers and warrant officers to reunite and celebrate their distinguished careers and dedication to service.
WO1 (Rtd) Mbuko had a colorful 34-year career before retiring in 1988. He is now 94 years old. During his career, he had served in various capacities, including one as the Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) of 3KR. He also served in the KDF band.
During the visit, veterans shared memories of their service and offered wisdom to the current serving personnel. The event also reinforced the larger Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) welfare program, which supports both veterans and the families of fallen heroes, ensuring their sacrifices are never forgotten.
In his address, Lt Col Ndung’u expressed KDF’s gratitude to WO1 (Rtd) Mbuko for his exemplary service.
“On behalf of the KDF family, we express our deepest gratitude to you for your selfless service and unwavering dedication. Your legacy continues to inspire us as we ENDAVOUR to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and commitment to our beloved nation,” the CO said.
Former 3KR Commanding Officer, Colonel (Rtd) Gideon Munyoki, thanked all the veterans for attending and celebrating the occasion with WO1 (Rtd) Mbuko. He also thanked 3KR Command for its continuous dedication to veteran affairs and supporting their families.
The event was attended by both serving and retired senior officers, service members, and the entire WO1 (Rtd) Mbuko family, who expressed their gratitude for the care and concern shown by the KDF fraternity.
