Mr. Ruben Brekelmans, Minister for Defence of the Royal Kingdom of the Netherlands, visited the National Defence University – Kenya (NDU-K) at its Seat in Lanet, Nakuru, for the official signing of a Letter of Intent aimed at strengthening cooperation between NDU-K and the Netherlands Defence Academy (NLDA).

During the signing, Mr. Brekelmans commended the Kenya Defence Forces and NDU-K leadership for establishing the university as a nationally and internationally recognized institution committed to providing quality education and conducting research that safeguards national and global interests. He expressed confidence that the partnership between NDU-K and NLDA would enhance sustainable national growth, climate security, and timely responses to emerging threats.

“With the increasing complexity of global security challenges, collaborative and coordinated efforts are essential to addressing these issues effectively,” stated Mr. Brekelmans.
NDU-K Vice-Chancellor, Lieutenant General Jimson Mutai, emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships between national and international institutions. He noted that such collaborations provide valuable insights and solutions to the increasingly complex security challenges of today’s world.

Lt. Gen. Mutai reiterated NDU-K’s mandate of training, capacity building, and conducting research and innovation in national security and strategy. He highlighted that progress in these areas relies on mutual learning through collaboration with relevant institutions.

The signing ceremony provided a platform for both institutions to share experiences and best practices in executing their mandates. It also aimed to foster new opportunities for research partnerships, innovation, and the strengthening of bilateral policies between NLDA and NDU-K.
