This week, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) carried out its Performance Evaluation for the 2023/24 financial year. The evaluation, conducted at Defence Headquarters, was led by officers from the Public Performance Management Unit under the Deputy Chief of Staff for Performance and Delivery Management. This exercise is part of a nationwide review involving all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
The evaluation focused on service delivery, target achievements, expected outputs, and performance indicators as outlined in the Performance Contracts for the financial year 2023/24.
In his opening remarks, the Ministry’s Secretary of Administration, Mr. Isaac Masinde, praised the officers from the Public Performance Management Unit for their dedication in ensuring the success of the Performance Contracts. Mr. Masinde emphasized the importance of the insights gained during the evaluation, noting that they will play a crucial role in shaping the Ministry’s future performance and informing strategic decisions. He also expressed the confidence of Cabinet Secretary Hon. Soipan Tuya and Principal Secretary Dr. Patrick Mariru in the Ministry’s ability to excel, highlighting MoD’s unwavering commitment to excellence.
“I urge all officers to work together to ensure the success of this important exercise,” Mr. Masinde stated.
The evaluation assessed key performance areas outlined in the Ministry’s Performance Contract, including financial management, service delivery, core mandate execution, affirmative action in procurement, implementation of Presidential Directives, and cross-cutting issues.
Both uniformed and civilian personnel within the Ministry participated in the evaluation, reflecting a unified approach to achieving its objectives.
