H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) on Tuesday, 6 October 2020 flagged off recovered vehicles to start service delivery under the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS).
The vehicles, recovered by KDF mechanics, included ambulances, tippers, fire engines, water bowsers, graders, hydraulic platforms and other light vehicles that have been grounded for several years.
Speaking at the event, the President said that the recovery of the various machinery cost 22 million shillings further lauding KDF for the exemplary job.
President Kenyatta reiterated that he will continue using KDF in his service delivery. “I have no intention in militarising the country but I must use the abled citizens to help me in serving the country.” he added.
The Commander-in-Chief highlighted projects that KDF has been involved in that include rehabilitation of the Kisumu Port and MV Uhuru which has to date conveyed 30million litres of fuel, the rehabilitation of the Nairobi-Nanyuki railway, the ongoing rehabilitation of Naivasha-Kisumu and Naivasha-Nyahururu meter gauge railway lines and the use of technology in mapping Kenya.
Chief of the Defence Forces General Robert Kibochi thanked the president for giving KDF an opportunity to serve the Nairobi people as enshrined in the constitution saying KDF is always mission ready to serve the people of Kenya.
Present during the flagging off ceremony were the Director Nairobi Metropolitan Services Major General Mohamed Badi, Senior Military and NMS Officers, Service Members and civilian staff.
