MOI AIR BASE HOSTS INTER-WINGS FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

The Moi Air Base (MAB) fraternity concluded a week-long inter-wings football tournament on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, with the Kenya Air Force Training Wing (KTW) and Technical Wing (TW) emerging as champions in the male and female categories, respectively.

The Base Commander Moi Air Base Brigadier Bernard Oluoch presided over the tournament, held at the Sina Makosa grounds. The competitions that began on 19th February 2025 drew six male teams and four female teams, that played a total of fifteen matches, each with a chance to represent Moi Air Base at the Chief of Defence Forces BORA Cup.

The event was a showcase of talent, teamwork, and determination.

Speaking during the event Brig Oluoch commended the players for their excellent performance and sportsmanship.

“This is just the beginning of the season, and there are many more opportunities ahead. I urge you to prepare diligently for the upcoming events in the sports calendar,” he said.

He emphasized the importance of sports in fostering esprit de corps, self-discipline, and a healthy lifestyle within the Kenya Air Force.

The tournament culminated in a gripping final where KTW defeated the Technical Maintenance Group (TMG) 3-1 in the male category, while TW edged out Tactical Transport Wing (TTW) 1-0 in the female category.

Individual prizes were also awarded to standout players. Corporal Samuel Iberi of TMG emerged as the top male scorer with five goals, while Senior Private Swale Mohamed of KTW was named the best male player. Private Abdalla Mwishee, also from KTW, took home the best goalkeeper award.

In the female category, Catherine Kungutia of TW was the top scorer with two goals, Nessy Mmbai of Helicopter Wing was named the best player, and Corporal Winnie Chesang of TMG was recognized as the best goalkeeper.

The tournament also reinforced the spirit of camaraderie and healthy competition among the wings and units of Moi Air Base.

Brig Oluoch encouraged teams that did not perform as expected to train harder, reminding them that the season is still young and full of opportunities.

The event was made possible through the generous sponsorship of Defence SACCO (DESACCO), Defence Welfare Services (DEFWES), and ICEA Lion Group, whose contributions ensured the smooth running of the tournament.

Present during the events were MAB Commanding Officers, Officers, Base and Wing Sergeant Majors, and service members, who turned out in large numbers to cheer on their teams.
