KENYA COAST NATIONAL POLYTECHNIC VISITS KENYA NAVY

A delegation from Kenya Coast National Polytechnic (KCNP) visited Kenya Naval Training College (KNTC), Mtongwe, for a benchmarking tour on 27 February 2025.

Upon arrival, the delegation was received by the Commandant KNTC, Colonel Benson Karuimbo, who provided them with an overview of the roles, organization, and the critical contribution the college plays in shaping the skills and careers of Kenya Navy sailors.

The Commandant highlighted that though KNTC’s training is oriented to provision of security and defence of Kenya’s territorial waters against sea-borne aggression, the college also runs some courses that align with those conducted in civilian training institutions. He further emphasized the college’s commitment to collaboration with other maritime partners and stakeholders in maritime education and training to enhance security as well as socio-economic transformation.

The delegation was also given an overview of KNTC’s Freighting and Damage Control Simulator. This included highlights on how the facility has transformed firefighting and damage control training and significantly reduced training costs while producing a skilled workforce for the Kenya Navy.

KCNP Chief Principal, Mr. Geoffrey Adama emphasized the polytechnic’s commitment to exploring collaborative opportunities with the Kenya Navy to enhance the skillset of students pursuing maritime and technical careers.

The visit concluded with a series of live demonstrations on firefighting and damage control techniques and a tour of the College’s Full Mission Bridge Simulator (FMBS). The delegation was informed of the FMBS’s role in providing realistic, hands-on navigational training for KN personnel, preparing them for real-world maritime operations.
