JOINT COMMAND AND STAFF COLLEGE CELEBRATES 2025 CULTURAL DAY

The Commandant Joint Command and Staff College (JCSC), Major General Eric Kinuthia, led the College community and invited guests in celebrating the annual JCSC Cultural Day on 25 January 2025 at the college headquarters in Karen, Nairobi.

The event, vibrant with color and excitement, gave the 91 course participants (40 from the 2024/2025 cohort) the chance to showcase a rich tapestry of cultural expressions. These included traditional foods and delicacies, music and dance performances, cultural artifacts, clothing, and intricate costumes representing the diverse communities in attendance.

Under the theme “Embracing the Mosaic of Cultural Diversity for Unity and Harmony,” the day underscored the importance of cultural pride and the value of embracing diverse backgrounds to build a cohesive community. The event highlighted how understanding and appreciating cultural differences contribute to unity, economic empowerment, and the reduction of intolerance and stereotyping.

Major General Kinuthia emphasized the significance of celebrating such a day, stating that it serves as a testament to the power of cross-cultural appreciation. He urged attendees to reflect on the beauty and strength found in the distinctiveness of each culture.

“It is through events like today that we celebrate the strength of diversity,” he said. “We need to reflect on the beauty that stands in the distinctiveness of every culture.”

The celebration featured captivating performances by local, regional, and international groups, including the famous Drummers of Burundi. These performances highlighted the richness of African and Asian cultures, encouraging guests to honor their unique contributions to the world.

Participants from 16 countries took part in the event, including Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, Tanzania, Botswana, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Malawi, Namibia, Nepal, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Sudan, Zambia, and Somalia. Guests enjoyed spectacular performances from diverse cultural groups, including the renowned Drummers of Burundi, Malawian Masquerades, Kenyan cultural dancers, and music by the Kenya Army’s Yellow Wagoners Band.

The event also offered a rich array of cuisines, representing the diverse backgrounds of the participants. Allied countries made presentations, further enriching the cultural exchange.

The day was attended by Senior Directing Staff from the College, senior military officers, and the families of the course participants.
