The Kenya Navy received a Dive Boat dubbed ‘DANA’ from the Danish government at the Kenya Navy Fleet Mkunguni on Friday, 4th February 2022.
The Dive Boat was handed over to the Kenya Navy Clearance Diving Unit (KNCDU) in a ceremony presided over by the Deputy Commander Kenya Navy Brigadier Lawrence Gituma.
Speaking during the ceremony, Brigadier Gituma appreciated the Danish government for the donation saying the existing cooperation between Kenya and Denmark had allowed the two countries to share military expertise, experiences and techniques, making both forces more effective.
He said that the cooperation had seen the Kenya Navy benefit from training of its Marine Engineers and Technicians, besides support in other infrastructural projects, enabling them to operate effectively in high threat maritime environments.
“The Kenya Navy Training School received a Full Mission Bridge Simulator and a fire fighting facility from the Danish Government in June in 2021. The two equipment have facilitated training in the Kenya Navy making it progress towards becoming a Center of Excellence in maritime safety,” said the Deputy Kenya Navy Commander.
The Danish Defence Attaché to Kenya Colonel Jens Lindving said that the two countries were committed to increasing maritime security cooperation to harness the blue economy and safeguard a free, open and prosperous Indian Ocean region.
Present during the ceremony was the Danish Liaison Officer, Deputy Commander Kenya Navy Base Mtongwe, Kenya Navy Chief of Operations among other Kenya Navy Senior Officers, Officers and Service Members.
