MWAK QUARTERLY MEETING REFLECTS ON ACHIEVEMENTS AND WAY FORWARD

The Military Wives Association of Kenya (MWAK) held its quarterly meeting yesterday (June 19, 2021).

The event was presided by Mrs Tabitha Kibochi, spouse of the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Robert Kibochi in Nairobi.

During the meeting the members were enlightened on the pertinent issues in the Strategic Plan and how the sub-committees on the six programme areas have led to a need based implementation matrix and budget for 2021/22.

Ms Kibochi called for enhanced commitment by members to ensure that the impact makes a difference to KDF families. Members were encouraged towards charity and giving back to the institution that has given to them.

Through KDF Compensation & Welfare, MWAK representatives visited over 21 military establishments to have a better understanding of the issues that they seek to engage with. The focus during the visits were Health, Education at KDF sponsored schools and Welfare.

According to Ms Kibochi, MWAK was established to complement Compensation and Welfare Department in ensuring the wellbeing of serving, retired, widows and orphans of KDF families.

In their five-year strategic plan which is yet to be finalized, MWAK intends to work through six programmes impacting on; health, education, mentorship, housing, veteran affairs as well as recreation issues.

In the next one year, the association intends to support education by giving scholarships to top ten students from the military sponsored schools as well as paying fees for the orphans and less fortunate students.

Through its Mentorship programme, MWAK will make a difference in the lives of the youth and to the women through the economic empowerment.

End.
