DEFENCE PS OPENS KENYA-US TRAINING 

Defence Principal Secretary Dr Patrick Mariru presided over the official opening of a Kenya-US training on defence workforce development at Ulinzi House on 28 April 25.

The week-long training for the Ministry’s Heads of Department (HODs) supported by Kenya United States Liason Office (KUSLO) seeks to build the capacity of the officials to oversee the enactment of a Defence Civilian Staff Policy that’s currently being developed.

In his opening remarks, the Principal Secretary emphasized the policy’s significance in enhancing civilian staff contribution to the attainment of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) broad mandate of safeguarding Kenya’s territorial integrity.

Dr Mariru noted that the Ministry was fully committed to the realization of policy as evidenced by the ongoing rigorous public participation exercise being undertaken in all MOD/KDF camps across Kenya.

On her part, KUSLO team lead Jessie Evans expressed her eagerness to working with the Ministry on the policy.

Ms Evans said her team was ready to support the Ministry at every stage of the policy development and implementation process.

Formulation of the Defence Civilian Staff Policy is currently in the public participation phase, where Ministry officials are visiting all military establishments to gather feedback from both uniformed and civilian staff.

The MOD team, that included a representative of the Public Service Commission (PSC), was led by Secretary of Administration Mr Isaac Masinde and Director for Human Resources Management Dr. Lilian Nzavi.
