Commander Close Operations (Close Ops), Brigadier Joel Maiyo, conducted a visit to Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) on 24 April 2025. The tour covered FOBs located within Sector South, North, and Upper Eastern. Among the bases visited were Jaradam, Hamey, Liboi, Dadajibula, Omar Jillo, Damasa, Elwak Airstrip, Idido, Karare, and Moyale.
During the visit, Brig. Maiyo held barazas (meetings) with the troops, commending them for their dedication and selfless service in enhancing security within their areas of responsibility. He praised the high standards of discipline observed among the troops, emphasizing its critical role in achieving operational success.
“Discipline is the most basic element of warfighting. It plays a vital role in the execution of your tasks and hence should be maintained at all times,” he stated.
He further stressed the importance of vigilance during operations and highlighted the value of fostering strong relations with the local communities through Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC).
“Beware of your surroundings at all times. Watch each other’s backs at every single moment. This will enhance the way you respond to any situation. Build good relations with the locals in all ways, as this will also enhance mission success,” he added.
This visit is part of the Commander’s ongoing tour of FOBs within the Close Ops area, aimed at boosting troop morale through direct interaction and gaining firsthand insight into their operational environment.
