The Defence Forces Amateur Boxing Association (DEFABA) recently participated in the National Open Boxing 2025 championship held at Charter Hall in Nairobi County. The championship, which ran on 16th to 19th April 2025 was organized by the Boxing Federation of Kenya. It featured 105 male and 21 female boxers from 16 teams representing boxing clubs and teams from various counties across the country. The championship featured a total of 102 bouts. DEFABA entered sixteen (12 male and 4 female ) boxers.
In the finals Flyweight Cpl Veronica Mbithe beat Faith Nafuna of team Nairobi. Others who won their bouts are ; Cruiserweight, Chris Ochanda who beat Victor Okeke of Kongowea, in Heavy Weight Spte Peter Abuti beat Francis Ndenga of Prisons, Light Welterweight, Cynthia Mwai won on a walkover and Bantamweight Kelvin Munyao won over Shaffi Bakari of NPS (WO). In Light Heavy Weight, Robert Okaka beat Humphrey Ochieng Jakababa of NPS
National Police Service (NPS) emerged overall winners with 24 points closely followed by DEFABA with 23 points, Prisons 11 points, Nairobi and Siaya jointly fourth with 9 points, Kibra 6 points, Kisumu 4 points, Kongowea and Nakuru 2 points each.
NPS won the men’s title on 21pts, DEFABA 16, Prisons 11, Nairobi 7, Siaya and Kibra 3 each, Kisumu, Kongowea and Nakuru 2 each.
In women’s category, DEFABA topped with 7 points, Siaya 6, Police and Kibra 3 each, Kisumu, Nairobi and Meru 2 each.
