DEFENCE CS MEETS VIETNAM PRESIDENT IN HANOI 

Defence Cabinet Secretary on Thursday morning held talks with H.E General Lương Cường, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi as a Special Envoy of H.E President Dr William Ruto.

At the meeting held on the margins of the ongoing P4G Summit, the Cabinet Secretary and the President discussed several subjects of mutual interest to Kenya and Vietnam including Kenya’s desire to establish diplomatic presence in Hanoi following the signing of the Kenya-Vietnam MOU on Diplomatic and Political Consultations in February this year.

In line with the Government’s Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) blueprint, Kenya aspires to be a manufacturing hub for Africa and welcomes Vietnamese investments in the country for the African market under the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (CFTA).

Further, Kenya is keen on developing deeper partnerships with Vietnam as the two friendly nations implement similar programmes in defence cooperation, universal health coverage, affordable housing, development of MSMEs, green and blue economy.

On the ongoing P4G Summit, the Cabinet Secretary commended Vietnam for the successful hosting of the multilateral forum, and assured of Kenya’s continued commitment, working with other member states, to ensure the outcomes of the meeting are fully implemented.

The leaders also discussed the growing global challenge of transnational organised crime which has become an existential threat to global security expressing the desire of the two countries desire to strengthen their collaboration in the fight against the crimes.
