Defence Principal Secretary, Dr. Patrick Mariru, today hosted a delegation from Austria led by Dr. Arnold H. Kammel, Secretary General and Defence Policy Director at Austria’s Ministry of Defence. The delegation paid a courtesy visit to the Defence Headquarters in Nairobi.
Dr. Kammel’s visit marks the successful conclusion of a training program conducted by the Austrian Armed Forces for the Regional Centre on Small Arms and Light Weapons and the official launch of a new course at the Humanitarian Peace Support School. These initiatives underscore the shared commitment of both nations to enhancing regional security through capacity-building and knowledge exchange.
Kenya and Austria continue to enjoy strong bilateral relations, with defence cooperation set to deepen through the finalization of a proposed Defence Cooperation Agreement. Today’s meeting provided a valuable platform to review ongoing engagements and explore new areas of collaboration aimed at strengthening military-to-military partnerships.
The discussions reaffirmed the enduring partnership between Kenya and Austria, particularly in the fields of defence and security cooperation.
Also present at the meeting were Vice Chief of the Defence Forces, Lieutenant General John Omenda, Director of Policy and Planning, Mr. Kennedy Okondo, Chief of Strategic Plans and Policy, Brigadier Samuel Kimani, and other senior officials.
