The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), in partnership with the Ministry of Health (MOH), joined the global community in celebrating World Oral Health Day at Nduluku Comprehensive School in Makueni County.
This year’s event, themed “A Happy Mouth is… A Happy Mind,” featured a variety of activities, including a procession march, visits to clinical stations and company stands, free dental check-ups, cleanings, treatments, eye examinations, and counseling services. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about oral disease prevention, promote healthy habits, and emphasize the importance of oral health.
Makueni County Governor H.E. Hon. Mutula Kilonzo expressed his gratitude to KDF and MOH for organizing the event, highlighting its benefits to the community, particularly the less fortunate, including women and children. He also urged KDF to organize a similar initiative focused on offering surgical services to locals.
Representing the Chief of the Defence Forces, Chief of Medical Services Brigadier (Dr.) Muithya Ngundo reaffirmed KDF’s commitment to supporting healthcare initiatives in collaboration with MOH. He emphasized the historical significance of the partnership between the Ministry of Defence and MOH in delivering essential health services to Kenyans.
Dr. Rebecca Kiptui, Head of Curative Services at MOH, speaking on behalf of the Principal Secretary, Mr. Harry Kimtai, commended KDF and other partners for their dedication to the week-long medical campaign. She urged locals and all Kenyans to prioritize their oral health, stressing the importance of preventive care to avoid serious dental issues.
World Oral Health Day is an annual global event dedicated to raising awareness about oral health as a crucial component of overall well-being. KDF’s participation in this year’s celebrations reinforced its commitment to national health initiatives and its role in fostering a healthier, more inclusive society.
