His Excellency Hon. William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, today received Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima Zorreguieta of the Netherlands at State House, Nairobi.
The King was accorded a 21-gun salute and inspected a Guard of Honour mounted by the 19 Kenya Rifles.

The Royal Couple then proceeded to Uhuru Gardens National Monument and Museum (UGNM&M) in Lang’ata, Nairobi, where they were received by the Commander of the Kenya Army, Lieutenant General David Tarus. At the monument, they laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior as Kenya Army personnel conducted a troop-in-line parade in their honor. A minute of silence was observed in remembrance of all fallen soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to Kenya.

The Royal Couple is in the country for a three-day official state visit.

Also present at the Uhuru Gardens ceremony were the Defence Headquarters Chief of Personnel, Brigadier Elijah Gatere; the Director of UGNM&M, Brigadier Opiyo Oduor; senior military officials; and invited guests from the Dutch Embassy and the Kenya Defence Forces.
