In a show of recognition and appreciation, Senior Officers from the Kenya Army Corps of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (KACEME) paid a courtesy visit to the home of Brigadier (Retired) David Chepkwony, who once played a pivotal role in shaping military logistics.
Commander (KACEME), Colonel Amos Ouko took the opportunity to relay greetings and well wishes from Commander Kenya Army, Lt Gen David Tarus to the retired Senior Officer affirming the former’s focus not only on operational readiness and fitness (mental and physical) but also on welfare of troops and veterans. Thereafter the team presented different gifts and mementos to both the retired Senior Officer and his beloved wife.
Brig (Rtd) Chepkwony also took the opportunity to share his experiences in service, highlighting key milestones from his distinguished 27-year military career. He notably served as the Director of Army Logistics Command (DAL), where he played a crucial role in ensuring the efficient supply and maintenance of military equipment.
One of his most significant contributions was the introduction of the current uniform worn by the Kenya Army. He also underscored the importance of training in the military and troop’s motivation. As DAL through proper planning and prioritizing he ensured adequate allocation of resources for training to enable Formations conduct annual Field training Exercises, a legacy he urged the present leadership to uphold and maintain.
His career journey saw him hold various leadership positions, including Commanding Officer (CO) Workshop Battalion and Corps Commander of KACEME. He also served as Adjutant of Workshop Battalion, overseeing key logistical planning and operations. His dedication to service and strategic leadership earned him the opportunity to serve alongside senior military figures, including the then Army Commanders, Gen Munyao, Lt Gen Sumbeiyo and Gen Kianga.
Having retired in the year 2003, the retired Brigadier expressed his gratitude for the visit and the efforts by the Kenya Defence Forces to remember and honour their veterans. The visit reinforced the importance of preserving the experiences and wisdom of retired officers, ensuring that their contributions continue to shape the future of the Kenya Army.
Brig (Rtd) Chepkwony, alongside his family, expressed deep gratitude for the visit, noting that such gestures reaffirm the strong bond between the military and its veterans. The family also thanked the delegation for the thoughtful gifts, acknowledging them as symbols of lasting camaraderie and appreciation from the Kenya Army and KACEME.
As KDF continues to strengthen its troops’ welfare initiatives, such visits serve as a testament to the institution’s commitment to recognizing and valuing those who have dedicated their lives to service.
