JAPAN MARITIME SELF DEFENCE FORCES VISIT KENYA NAVY

Deputy Commander Kenya Navy, Brigadier Sankale Kiswaa, hosted a delegation from Japan comprising Commander Minesweeper Division Three, Captain Shinsuke Amano, along with the Commanding Officer Japan Ship (JS) BUNGO (MST-464), Commander Tanaka Kouji, and the Commanding Officer JS ETAJIMA (MSO-306), Lieutenant Commander Oda Takayuki, on 13 March 2025 at the Kenya Navy Headquarters, Mtongwe.

The visit aimed at opening new opportunities for maritime collaboration and strengthening the bilateral relationship between Japan Maritime Self Defence Forces (JMSDF) and Kenya Navy, with a specific focus on capacity building through exchange programmes, joint maritime training and exercises.

During the meeting, discussions focused on enhancing the skill sets of Kenya Navy and JMSDF through collaborative training exercises and technical exchanges. These exchanges will focus on strengthening maritime operations, improving operational readiness, and facilitating technology transfer to ensure that both navies are better equipped to respond to evolving maritime security challenges.
