DEFENCE PRINCIPAL SECRETARY APPEARS BEFORE PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE

Defence Principal Secretary Dr. Patrick Mariru today appeared before the Departmental Committee on Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations at the Parliament Buildings to present the budget estimates as stipulated in the supplementary estimates (II) of the 2024/25 Financial Year.

The PS urged the Committee chaired by Belgut Member of Parliament Hon. Nelson Koech to support ongoing modernization efforts of the defence equipment saying it’s critical for the overall force posture.

Dr. Mariru who was accompanied by the Vice Chief of Defence Forces Lieutenant General John Omenda, and other General officers and senior officers from Semi-Autonomous Government Agencies (SAGAS) domiciled in the Ministry said the Ministry is in compliance with the directive from the Ministry of National Treasury and Economic Planning to settle all pending bills in first charge.

“We have been commended by National Treasury for promptly paying our suppliers spread across the country. We are imploring you to allocate us with the requested funds as contained in the supplementary budget to support our programs, projects and initiatives not only in Kenya but also every part across the globe our soldiers are deployed,” said the PS.

Heads of various SAGAS and Defence Controlled Units (DCUs) attended the session, representing the National Defence University-Kenya, Kenya Space Agency, Kenya Shipyards Limited, and the Kenya Meat Commission.
