NATIONAL DEFENCE COLLEGE HOSTS DISTINGUISHED LECTURE BY ESTEEMED DIPLOMATS

The National Defence College (NDC) on 26th Feb 2025, hosted a high-level lecture of opportunity featuring two globally renowned diplomats, Ambassador Jendayi E. Frazer and Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield. Attended by participants of the National Security and International Relations Course No. 27 of 2024/2025, the event underscored NDC’s unwavering dedication to shaping visionary leaders in global security and diplomacy.

Ambassador Jendayi E. Frazer, a distinguished expert in African affairs and former U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, alongside Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, former U.S. Representative to the United Nations, delivered compelling insights into the evolving landscape of international relations. Their discussions provided an understanding of contemporary security challenges, regional stability, and the intricacies of global governance.

The lecture explored topics that included conflict resolution, peacekeeping, economic diplomacy, and the role of multilateral institutions in fostering security and cooperation. Ambassador Frazer emphasized the need for proactive diplomacy and dynamic partnerships to address Africa’s complex security concerns. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield delved into the significance of international collaboration, illustrating how multilateral efforts are crucial in sustaining long-term global peace and stability.

Participants actively engaged in a reflective discourse, posing thought-provoking questions on counterterrorism strategies, governance frameworks, and sustainable development goals. The dialogue also delved into the increasing role of youth in peace and security, highlighting their potential in conflict resolution and policy-making. Additionally, discussions on artificial intelligence illuminated its transformative impact on modern security paradigms, particularly in intelligence gathering, cybersecurity, and strategic decision-making.

Lieutenant General Juma Mwinyikai, Commandant, National Defence College, expressed his pleasure in hosting three distinguished and transformative figures in security, strategy, and policy to the college. He noted that their visit was particularly timely, as the college was currently focused on international security strategies. He emphasized his belief that they were the most qualified discussants, having been deeply involved in the field.

“It gives me great pleasure to host three eminent and transformative actors in the field of security, strategy and policy to the National Defence College. Your visit is very timely, for in this term we are immersed in the subject of international security strategies and we believe you are the best discussants who have been at the heart of it,” he said.

The event reinforced NDC’s position as a premier institution for advanced security and strategic studies in Africa, further cementing its role in shaping future security leaders equipped with the expertise to address emerging global threats.

The lecture concluded with a symbolic token of appreciation presented to the esteemed speakers. The occasion was graced by Hon. Ambassador Monica Juma, National Security Advisor, high-ranking military officials, other distinguished guests, and participants from Course No. 27.
