ENHANCING HEALTHCARE FOR KDF PERSONNEL: DEFMIS TRUST DEED REVIEW MEETING

Commandant Defence Forces Recruits Training School, Brigadier John Kipya, accompanied by Board of Officers constituted to collect views on the Defence Forces Medical Insurance Scheme (DEFMIS) Trust Deed Review, visited Kenya Navy Headquarters on 20 February 2025.

The team paid a courtesy call to the Deputy Commander Kenya Navy, Brigadier Sankale Kiswaa, before proceeding for presentations and discussions. During the meeting the team discussed key issues regarding the ongoing review of the DEFMIS TRUST DEED, including its current structure, potential improvements, and ways to enhance service delivery for Kenya Defence Forces personnel.

The discussions focused on addressing the evolving healthcare needs of serving members and retirees, exploring digital solutions, and ensuring better healthcare coverage for dependants and veterans. It also provided a platform for sharing insights and aligning strategies to further strengthen the scheme.

Commander Kenya Navy Base Mtongwe, Brigadier Abraham Biwot, presented suggestions to enhance DEFMIS efficiency, including digitalizing information, integrating telemedicine for remote consultations, and offering an insurance package for parents of service personnel with access to military facilities under Ulinzi Prime Health Services (UPHS).

Present during the meeting were UPHS Finance Manager, Colonel Paul Mung’ori, Commandant Kenya Naval Training College, Colonel Benson Karuimbo, Kenya Navy Chief of Personnel, Colonel Luke Nadasava, Commander Naval Logistics, Colonel George Njogu, The Kenya Navy Hospital (TKNH) Senior Medical Officer, Colonel (Dr) Jethro Wambugu, TKNH Chief Nursing Officer, Colonel Vincent Omondi, other Senior Officers and Officers.
