ST. PETER AND PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH LAUNCHES JUBILEE YEAR OF PRAYER 2025

On January 5, 2025, the Bishop of the Military Ordinariate of Kenya, Rt. Rev. Wallace Ng’ang’a, presided over the launch of the Jubilee Year of Prayer 2025 at Saint Peter and Paul Cathedral, located at the Defence Headquarters in Nairobi.

A Jubilee Year is traditionally proclaimed by the Universal Catholic Church every 25 years. It is a sacred time set aside to inspire the faithful to embark on pilgrimages, repent of their sins, forgive others, and renew their spiritual focus. This year’s theme, “Pilgrims of Hope,” is symbolized by the opening of the Holy Door, inviting all who enter to pursue a life of holiness.

In his homily, Bishop Ng’ang’a highlighted the uncertainties of modern life, marked by pain, hopelessness, and widespread suffering. He urged the faithful to place their trust in God’s transformative power and to face the future with renewed confidence and patience amidst life’s trials.

“God has not promised a journey free of troubles,” he reminded the congregation, “but with hope and prayers, we will triumph. As we begin this Jubilee Year, let us celebrate, knowing our struggles prepare us for a brighter future. Do not give up, for the light will eventually shine.”

The Bishop also emphasized the importance of religious education, particularly in military families. He noted that fostering Christian values in children serves as the foundation for a society built on peace, love, and mutual care.

The event included a solemn dedication of the Kenya Defence Forces fraternity and its leadership to God, seeking divine protection, guidance, and care.

The celebration concluded with a solemn procession to the church, led by Bishop Ng’ang’a. The moment was marked by vibrant musical renditions from the church choir, creating an atmosphere of holiness and joy.
