The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), launched a four-day chess training program on 17th December 2024 at various KDF-sponsored schools across the country. The program targets KDF-sponsored schools in the Nairobi, Thika, Nakuru, Nanyuki, Isiolo and Coast Regions and is designed to equip teachers with essential chess knowledge and teaching strategies to nurture the game within their schools.
Teachers and students from Mariakani Primary, Kenya Navy Comprehensive School, Moi Forces Academy Boys, Moi Forces Academy Girls, Laikipia Air Base Secondary School, Moi Forces Academy – Lanet and Kahawa Barrack Secondary School, participated in the training. This initiative emphasizes the importance of chess in developing critical thinking, strategic planning, and cognitive skills among both teachers and students.
