The 15 Kenya Rifles (15 KR), led by the Unit Commanding Officer (CO) Lieutenant Colonel Japhet Lairumbi, visited retired Army Sergeant Major (ASM) Warrant Officer Class 1 (WO1) Hamud Abdalla Said at his home in Malindi, Kilifi County. This visit was part of the unit’s welfare program for retired service personnel.
The visit offered an opportunity for the attending officers and service members to gain a first-hand account of the sacrifices made by veterans. WO1 (Rtd) Hamud is an example, having selflessly defended the nation’s values and freedoms. His unwavering commitment to duty and exemplary leadership during his years of service not only protected the nation but also inspired generations of servicemen and women across Kenya.
WO1 (Rtd) Hamud served in the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) for 42 years, beginning in 1979. His distinguished career demonstrated outstanding competence in some of the most demanding environments. He rose through the ranks, serving in various capacities including Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) of 15 KR, RSM of the Defence Forces Recruit Training School (DFRTS), and Army Sergeant Major (ASM) from 2019 until his retirement in 2021.
In his remarks, Lt Col Lairumbi expressed gratitude for WO1 (Rtd) Hamud’s exemplary service. He reflected on the deep impact of his leadership, emphasizing that true leadership is about service, integrity is a lifelong commitment, and strength lies in unwavering dedication to a cause greater than oneself.
“On behalf of all those whose lives you have touched, I want to express our heartfelt gratitude. Your legacy is not only engraved in the records of our military history but also in the hearts of those who have had the privilege to serve with or learn from you. As we honor you today, please know that your contributions continue to inspire us to strive for excellence and to serve with the same dedication and honor that you exemplified throughout your remarkable career. Thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and your enduring legacy. May you continue to inspire and lead, even in retirement, as a beacon of honor and commitment to our great nation,” the CO said.
Also in attendance were serving officers, service members, and the entire WO1 (Rtd) Hamud family.
