On 21st November 2024, the Kenya Navy’s medical team conducted a free medical camp in Kizingitini, Pate Island, Lamu County. This event, organized as part of the Kenya Defence Forces’ (KDF) Civilian Military Cooperation (CIMIC) program, underscored the Kenya Navy’s commitment to enhancing community welfare.
Led by Lieutenant Colonel (Dr) Judith Adipo, an Obstetrician & Gynaecologist at the Kenya Navy Hospital, and supported by Community Health Promoters (CHPs), the team delivered critical healthcare services to over 600 residents, including women, children, and the elderly. Services provided ranged from treatment for non-communicable diseases to ophthalmological, dental, and gynecological care. Residents also received nutritional supplements, medicine, and walking aids.
Lieutenant Colonel (Dr) Adipo expressed gratitude for the local community’s cooperation and encouraged adherence to medical advice for improved well-being.
The community voiced appreciation for the Kenya Navy’s impactful support.
Additionally, Kenya Navy personnel participated in a tree-planting initiative led by Commander Task Unit (CTU) Lieutenant Colonel Dickens Kombo, planting 4,000 mangrove trees with help from the local community to promote environmental sustainability.
This camp is one of several Kenya Navy initiatives supporting local communities as the Navy prepares to celebrate its 60th anniversary in December 2024. The event highlights the Kenya Navy’s dual role in protecting national maritime sovereignty and contributing to national development and social welfare.
Senior Base Medical Officer (SBMO) Lieutenant Colonel Nelson Senelwa and other officers and service members were also in attendance.
