KENYA DEFENCE FORCES ARRIVE IN ABUJA FOR ALL-AFRICA MILITARY GAMES

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) sports team has landed safely at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, Nigeria, to participate in the second edition of the Africa Military Games, set to officially begin on 22nd November 2024 at MKO Abiola National Stadium.

Upon arrival, the head of the Kenyan delegation, Brigadier Elijah Gatere, addressed the team, encouraging them to strive for excellence and aim for medals in every event.

“We have come here to showcase Kenya as a powerhouse in sports, and I am convinced we will win fair and square,” he stated.

Brigadier Gatere commended the preparation efforts made by all participants and emphasized that the KDF’s participation exemplifies its commitment to regional unity and friendship. He also highlighted the addition of new sports, like golf, as a progressive step that will encourage participation and enhance competitiveness.

Supporting these remarks, Chef de Mission, Brigadier Matthew Lenamunai urged the team to stay focused, reminding them of KDF’s successful record at the 1ST Games over two decades ago.

“We are on a mission and, as a reputable force, we must lead by example, showing other African nations that KDF is a force to be reckoned with,” he said.

The team has completed accreditation at the Nicon Luxury Hotel and has moved to their designated accommodations. The games will feature 19 competitive events, with the official opening ceremony scheduled for 21st November 2024.

This year, KDF has brought 87 officials and athletes who are determined to surpass their previous medal tally of 40, set 22 years ago.

The 2024 Africa Military Games are organized by the Organization of Military Sports in Africa (OSMA) and the International Military Sports Council (CISM), marking another milestone in promoting sports and camaraderie among African defence forces.
