The Commander Kenya Army, Lieutenant General David Tarus, and Commander Kenya Air Force, Major General Fatuma Ahmed, led a team of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers and service members in the 2024 Nairobi Standard Chartered Marathon on 27th October 2024. Their participation, along with that of other KDF personnel, highlighted the KDF’s commitment to promoting health, resilience, and esprit de corps within the Force.
In the elite category of the marathon, KDF male athletes demonstrated outstanding performances across various distances. Private Vincent Mutai from Kahawa Garrison clinched victory in the 21 km race, while Private Keyborn Obato from the Artillery Brigade finished second. Corporal Njuguna from 2 Brigade also achieved an impressive fourth place in the men’s 10 km category.
KDF female athletes also delivered remarkable results during the event.
Private Gladys Koech from the Kenya Navy won the 21 km race, with Private Esther Chemutai from the Artillery finishing second. Private Dorothy Kipkilach from 2 Brigade rounded out the strong showing by placing fifth, underscoring the determination and competitiveness of KDF women as they excelled in their respective races.
The two Commanders were also among the distinguished guests who presented awards to the winners of both the 10 km and 21 km races.
The event saw the participation of other senior officers, including the Chief of Systems Defence Headquarters, Brigadier Aloka, and Kenya Air Force Colonel Logistics, Colonel Benedetta Kikech, along with other KDF senior officers. Their involvement further demonstrated the KDF’s united front in supporting national health and well-being.
