KDF PERSONNEL CYCLE 104 KM FOR WORTHY CAUSE

On 12th October 2024, Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) senior officers, officers, and service personnel embarked on a 104 km cycling expedition to honor fallen KDF heroes and heroines, as part of the lead-up to the 2024 KDF Day.

The event began at Thika Barracks and covered a route passing through Gatunyu, Kirwara, Ndakaini Dam, Ndunyu Chege, Mukarara, and Gituamba before concluding back at Thika Barracks.

The expedition was led by Brigadier Ahmed Saman, Commander Army Special Operations Brigade (ASOB). He dedicated the event to the KDF’s gallant men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in the quest for peace within the country and the region.
“Let this occasion be a memory to the men and women who the KDF has lost, as it seeks to defend the country’s territorial integrity and grant citizens the freedoms they continue to enjoy,” Brigadier Saman said.

He commended the 36 cyclists who participated, noting a significant increase from the inaugural event, which had only two participants.

Deputy Commander Construction Engineers Brigade, Colonel Maurice Wasomi, described the event as a celebration of the selflessness of KDF’s fallen patriots and a testament to the comradeship within the KDF fraternity.

The 36 participants represented the three KDF services: the Kenya Army, Kenya Air Force, and Kenya Navy.

KDF Day is one of the most significant observances in the Kenyan military calendar. This year’s event, the 13th of its kind, will take place on Monday, 14th October 2024, at Thika Barracks.

It will commemorate and celebrate the valor of KDF heroes and heroines. The theme for this year’s event is “One Force, Mission Ready: Unity in Action for National Security and Development.”
