KENYA ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS REHABILITATES SCHOOL

The Kenya Army Corps of Engineers, under the leadership of Commanding Officer 14 Engineers Battalion Lieutenant Colonel Wainaina, conducted a rehabilitation project at Thika High School for the Visually Impaired in Thika, Kiambu County. On Monday, 7 October 24, they levelled the school’s playground and restored a long-defunct borehole.

Ms. Julia Keitany, the Deputy Principal, expressed deep gratitude to the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) for their efforts. She noted that the uneven playground had been a significant barrier to the students’ physical activities, but with the recent levelling, the space will now be safer and more inclusive, encouraging greater participation and promoting overall well-being.

Additionally, Ms. Keitany appreciated the rehabilitation of the school’s borehole, which had been out of service for nearly a decade, leading to high water bills. She emphasized that the restored borehole will greatly benefit the special needs students, providing a reliable water source.

Lieutenant Colonel Wainaina, speaking on behalf of the KDF, expressed pride in the opportunity to give back to the community, reaffirming KDF’s commitment to assisting where possible.

This project is part of the Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) initiatives being carried out by KDF in preparation for KDF Day, which will be commemorated on 14th October to honor the sacrifices of KDF personnel.
