On September 28, 2024, a team from the Kenya Air Force (KAF), led by Major Kate Ngaine on behalf of Commander KAF, Major General Fatuma Ahmed, participated in a Form 4 Mentorship Program at Starehe Girls’ Centre.
The program aimed to provide students with valuable insights into academic success, career development, and personal growth. Starehe Girls’ Centre alumni also joined to offer additional guidance and share their experiences.
The mentorship covered several key topics, including exam preparation, transitioning to university life, mental health awareness, building networks, financial management, and career planning. These topics were designed to help the students prepare for life after completing their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
In her speech, Major Ngaine expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to mentor the students. She urged them to remain focused, disciplined, and consistent in their studies, emphasizing the importance of academic excellence in creating diverse career opportunities.
Additionally, she shared insights into the Kenya Defence Forces’ vision, mission, core values, and career opportunities, encouraging the students to keep an open mind when considering their future paths.
Sister Jane Soita, the school’s director, thanked the KDF and the alumni for their time and contributions.
Alumni representative Joyce Waringa encouraged the students to strive for excellence while recognizing both their strengths and weaknesses, and to approach their future with patience and determination.
