The Commander of the Kenya Navy Fleet (KNF), Brigadier Mohammed Shemote, recently presided over the opening ceremony of the Senior Leadership Course (SLC) and Junior Leadership Course (JLC) at 15 Kenya Rifles in Mariakani, Kilifi County.
The Junior Leadership Course (JLC) is designed for Junior Non-Commissioned Officers (JNCOs) at the ranks of Senior Private and Corporal, while the Senior Leadership Course (SLC) caters to Senior Non-Commissioned Officers (SNCOs) in the ranks of Sergeant and Senior Sergeant. Both courses aim to equip participants with vital leadership, command, and management skills to enhance their effectiveness in their respective roles within the Kenya Navy and the broader Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
In his address, Brigadier Shemote highlighted the career-defining nature of the courses, urging participants to approach them with discipline and commitment.
“You must put your best foot forward and be the best version of yourself. Your discipline and hard work should be incontestable throughout the duration of this course,” he advised.
He further encouraged participants to adopt the Kaizen philosophy, emphasizing continuous improvement, not only to boost productivity but also to serve as role models and mentors to their subordinates.
Colonel Benson Karuimbo, Commandant of the Kenya Naval Training College (KNTC), welcomed the participants and underscored the significance of the courses as pivotal points in their careers. He emphasized that the skills gained would shape their decision-making abilities and influence both their personal and professional lives.
“These courses will shape your future social and professional life aspects in terms of competencies gained,” he noted.
The event was also attended by Colonel George Njogu, Director of Naval Logistics, alongside other senior officers, officers, and service members.
