On September 24, 2024, Commander of the Kenya Air Force (KAF), Major General Fatuma Ahmed, hosted a delegation from the Kenya United States Liaison Office (KUSLO) at KAF Headquarters in Nairobi.
The delegation, led by Deputy Under Secretary for International Affairs at the United States Air Force (USAF) Ms. Kelli Seybolt, presented a report on a recently concluded training aimed at strengthening KAF combat search and rescue capabilities.
This training, part of a bilateral agreement, focused on enhancing the skills of Kenya’s Rapid Response Unit (RRU) Pararescue Jumpers (PJs). It involved intensive exercises in mountainous and desert terrains, covering inland navigation, communications, advanced mountaineering, tactical combat casualty care, and live-fire tactical exercises.
The training also culminated with the selection of new Pararescue Jumpers and the launch of the first PJ pipeline course, preparing KAF personnel for demanding rescue and combat operations.
Maj. Gen. Ahmed expressed gratitude to the USAF team for their commitment to improving KAF’s capabilities, particularly in Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) development, which has enhanced interoperability between the two nations’ air forces.
Ms. Seybolt highlighted that the training had equipped KAF with advanced skills, improving their mutual ability to respond swiftly and effectively to complex military operations, particularly those requiring close air-ground coordination.
