Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Chaplaincy recently held induction ceremonies marking the conclusion of a four-day inter-religious seminar at the Defence Headquarters Camp Administration Unit. The seminar, themed “Serving Diligently,” brought together newly recruited Catechists and religious leaders from the Roman Catholic Church (RC), Muslim Maalims, and Anglican Church (AC), representing KDF’s three Services.
Participants were engaged in sessions covering a range of topics, including the role of Chaplaincy and Catechism within KDF, Interfaith Understanding and Cooperation, and Military Leadership.
The Anglican ceremony, held at St. Michael’s Cathedral, Defence Headquarters, was presided over by Principal Chaplain Col (Rev) Amos Oking. The Roman Catholic induction was led by Colonel John Lugonzo, Officer in Charge of Public Health at Kenya Army Headquarters, and Chairman of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
At the Masjid Noor Islamic Centre, Brig Yussuf Hussein Adan, Chief of Communication Information Systems at Defence HQ, joined Principal Muslim Chaplain Col Abdulmalik Rubeya and Kenya Army Muslim Service Chaplain Col Rajab Athuman in congratulating the new Maalims. Brig Adan encouraged them to serve not only the Muslim community but also personnel from diverse religious backgrounds, reminding them of the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of Islam and enhance their service to God and humanity.
Throughout the ceremonies, guest speakers emphasized the importance of recognizing and addressing the common spiritual challenges faced by military personnel and urged the newly inducted chaplains to work diligently in mitigating these challenges.
