The Military Ordinariate of Kenya celebrated its annual Family Day in a vibrant ceremony on 14 September 2024, at the St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Defence Headquarters, Nairobi. This year’s event brought together families from Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) military parishes across the country, showcasing a strong sense of unity and devotion.
The Mass was led by Colonel (Rtd) (Monsignor) Benjamin Maswili and concelebrated by Apostolic Administrator Colonel (Monsignor) Fr. John Njeru, alongside clergy from various KDF Brigades, Formations, and Units. The church choir uplifted the occasion with songs, while the Pontifical Missionary Children added to the celebration through dance, creating a unique and lively atmosphere.
In his homily, Col (Rtd) (Monsignor) Maswili called on Christians to foster unity and love within the family of Jesus Christ. He emphasized God’s love for humanity and the importance of the sacraments in strengthening one’s relationship with God.
“What a unique expression of love from God for sending His Son to save the world. Let us endeavor to love our brothers and sisters exceptionally,” he urged.
Distinguished guests included the National Security Advisor, Ambassador Dr. Monica Juma, and the General Officer Commanding Eastern Command (GSO EASTCOM), Major General Lukas Kutto. Amb. Dr. Juma praised the efforts of the clergy and congregation in making the Family Day a success. She encouraged the faithful to continue living by the Church’s teachings to receive greater blessings from God.
The highlight of the celebration was a fundraising event, led by Amb. Dr. Juma, in support of the Military Ordinariate Self Reliance Fund and further development projects for the church. The event drew attendance from General Officers, Senior Officers, service members, and their families, among other dignitaries.
