PS DEFENCE CHAIRS PUBLIC FINANCE MANAGEMENT MEETING

The Principal Secretary (PS) of the Ministry of Defence, Dr. Patrick Mariru, has urged various departments within the Ministry to ensure the prudent and accountable use of available resources to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. As the Accounting Officer of the Ministry, Dr. Mariru emphasized his duty to ensure that taxpayers’ money is used wisely.

Dr. Mariru made these remarks today while chairing the Public Finance Management Standing Committee meeting at the Defence Headquarters in Nairobi.

The meeting brought together various departments within the Ministry, including Finance, Accounts, Supply Chain Management, Personnel, and Logistics, to develop a clear roadmap for ensuring the Ministry focuses its budget on priority areas and eliminates the possibility of pending bills.

“In all our undertakings, we must ensure that money is put to good use and avoid unnecessary pending bills. We have a duty to ensure that the welfare of our soldiers is well taken care of, enabling them to serve our country effectively,” said the PS.

He also encouraged those present to remain proactive in managing the Ministry’s affairs and to consult regularly to maintain clean financial records.

Also present at the meeting were the Assistant Chief of Defence Forces in charge of Personnel and Logistics, Major General David Ketter; Senior Chief Finance Officer, Mr. Joseph Mutuma; Senior Deputy Accountant General, Ms. Electina Wanyonyi; Chief of Finance, Brigadier Samuel Kipng’etich; Chief of Logistics, Brigadier Jacob Ondieki; and Director Strategy, Policy, and Plans, Mr. Kennedy Okondo, among others.
