Major General Paul Otieno, the newly appointed Commander Kenya Navy, officially took over the mantle from Major General Thomas Ng’ang’a at a ceremony held at the Kenya Navy Headquarters on 09 May 2024.
In his speech during the ceremony, Major General Otieno advised the Kenya Navy personnel to be committed to their duties of safeguarding Kenya’s maritime domain.
“Kenya Navy has been steadfast in safeguarding Kenya’s Maritime interests. Be committed to your duties and observe Kenya Defence Forces core values while executing the Kenya Navy mandate,” he said.
He urged Kenya Navy service personnel to embrace teamwork, professionalism and integrity while performing duties onboard Kenya Navy ships.
Major General Ng’ang’a, the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration and Finance at the National Defence University-Kenya congratulated Major General Otieno for his appointment as the Commander Kenya Navy. He urged Kenya Navy service personnel to serve diligently in all capacities in order to achieve Kenya Navy Mission and Vision.
Prior to the change of guard ceremony, Major General Otieno and Major General Ng’ang’a visited service personnel at Kenya Navy Base (KNB), Manda Bay where they conducted a handover takeover ceremony.
While at KNB Manda Bay, Major General Otieno reaffirmed his full support to the Kenya Navy Officers and Sailors at the base. He committed to cooperate with all Officers and Sailors to navigate the Kenya Navy to greater levels. He devoted to ensure the morale and welfare of service personnel is guaranteed for effective execution of allocated duties.
