Defence Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale today hosted the Czechia Ambassador to Kenya Her Excellency Ms. Nicol Adamcovà who paid him a courtesy visit at the Defence Headquarters, Nairobi.
The two leaders discussed a broad range issues on ways of fostering the already existing strong bilateral ties between Kenya and Czech Republic as a follow-up to the official visit to Kenya by the Czechia Prime Minister in November last year.
Hon. Duale noted that Kenya and Czech Republic share a rich history which has sustained the strategic partnership in a number of areas including trade, climate action, skills transfer in health domain, wildlife conservation, peace and security among others.
As a result of the friendly bilateral ties between the two States, Czech Armed Forces has been conducting joint training with the Special Forces of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) since 2009. This joint training is key in knowledge and skills transfer.
The CS noted that the two countries have developed a draft Defence Cooperation Agreement (DCA) that awaits ratification by the cabinet which shall bolster their collaboration.
Once ratified, the DCA shall enable Kenya and Czech Republic collaborate in the fields of defence and security, counter-terrorism, training and education, defence research and development. Other areas of cooperation for mutual interest include defence industry, military medical services, joint defence welfare and disaster response.
Hon. Duale maintained that there exits numerous areas of possible future cooperation in the space sector, cyber security and green energy.
During the meeting, the CS was accompanied by the Chief of Strategic Plans and Policy at the Defence Headquarters Brigadier Richard Mwanzia.
