His Excellency William Samoe Ruto, PHD, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander in Chief of the Defence Forces (C-in-C) today received King Charles III, King of the United Kingdom in a colourful ceremony at State House, Nairobi.
On arrival, His Majesty inspected a guard of honour mounted in his honour by 23 Mechanised Infantry Battalion (MIB) of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and accorded a 21 gun salute.
King Charles III who was accompanied by his wife Queen Camilla, thereafter toured Uhuru Gardens National Monument and Museum (UGNM&M) where he unveiled the Museum in the presence of His Excellency the President. Thereafter, he paid his respects and laid wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown warriors.
The King was taken through the history of the Mugumo tree where the first Kenyan flag was hoisted after gaining independence and the house that the first president of the Republic of Kenya, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta resided.
Later on, King Charles III was taken through a tour of the museum that hosts Kenya’s history.
His Majesty’s four-day State visit to Kenya marks His first visit as a Monarch to a Commonwealth country, 40 years after the visit of his mother the late Queen Elizabeth II state visit to Kenya in 1983.
Present during the event were Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Hon. Musalia Mudavadi, Cabinet Secretaries for Defence Honorable Aden Duale, Chief of the Defence Forces General Francis Ogolla, Vice Chief of the Defence Forces Lieutenant General Jonah Mwangi, Service Commanders and invited guests.
