The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) today, participated in the 60th edition of Mashujaa Day celebrations which was presided over by the Commander in Chief of the Defence Forces and President of the Republic of Kenya His Excellency Hon. Dr William Samoei Ruto at the Kericho Green Stadium.
This year’s mashujaa day themed, Universal Health Care (UHC) was graced by Angolan Foreign Affairs Minister Tete Antonio who highlighted the deep connections that the two countries share since independence.
The Head of State, accompanied by Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Francis Ogolla, inspected a Guard of Honour mounted by the three Services; Kenya Army, Kenya Air Force and Kenya Navy, after which followed a march-on display by military personnel and other security and law enforcement agencies together with an aerial show by Kenya Air Force aircraft with some showcasing their tactical capabilities.
In his address, President Ruto put emphasis on the day’s significance in honouring and celebrating the individual in their contributions through their daily grind, no matter how small it is, as it ultimately adds to the development and growth of the nation as a whole.
The Commander in Chief flagged off ‘Matibabu Nyumbani’, which he cited will be instrumental in shifting away from the traditional medical curative approach, to a more preventative one which will be implemented at the community level by funding the facilitation of the community health promoters.
The President lauded Kenyans for their resilience and being adaptive and supportive towards launched government programs and initiatives geared towards the nation’s development.
“Today not only marks a historic date in our country’s struggle for independence, but it also provides the much needed platform to celebrate the power of the individual. We celebrate the farmers, construction workers, market vendors and all of us who wake everyday for various hustle. We take this day to honour your efforts as they are the cement that fortify our nation’s growth towards greater heights,” he said.
Mashujaa Day was adopted to celebrate Kenyan heroes and heroines both alive and those who’ve died for their immense contribution to the Country in different sectors and spheres with this year’s theme being ‘Universal Health Care’.
In attendance were the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Chief Justice Martha Koome, Cabinet Secretary for Defence Hon Aden Duale, Chief of Defence Forces Gen Francis Ogolla , Service Commanders, an other senior government officials.
