The Military Wives Association of Kenya (MWAK) Chairperson Mrs. Aileen Ogolla, officiated MWAKs’ special General Meeting and subsequently celebrated the commissioning of new members at the Defence Headquarters, in Nairobi.
While presiding over the event, MWAK Chairperson Mrs. Aileen Ogolla acknowledged the unwavering commitment and dedication of the MWAK members towards their mission of ‘Walking Far Together’ since its inception in 2021.
In her opening remarks, Mrs. Ogolla emphasized the importance of MWAK as an organization of compassionate individuals who walk together in unity with a common goal of propelling KDF families using the family-centric approach.
The Chairperson also noted the organization’s focus in the next half of the year which includes; mobilization of new MWAK members, economic empowerment among MWAK members, and addressing the special needs of children and personnel abled differently in KDF among others.
MWAK Founder Mrs. Tabitha Kibochi, urged for members’ cooperation and asked them to fully support the Chairperson as she explores ways of enriching and growing the association with the support of the KDF leadership.
Mrs. Ruth Matiiri, wife to the late Amb. Maj Gen (Rtd) Ayub Matiiri, made a special presentation that appreciated and acknowledged MWAK’s positive impact on the KDF widows. She urged the members to seize the opportunity in MWAK by being there for each other and focusing on building networks and friendships that will be useful in the future, especially in cases of bereavement.
The General Meeting also provided a chance for members to deliberate on opportunities available to the Association like mentorship, matters of education, and maternal health among other opportunities.
The event ended with gratitude messages to the MWAK Founder Mrs. Kibochi, for birthing the idea that has impacted the Military families in many different ways.
