Kenya Defence Forces contingent on 18 June 2023 joined their counterparts from other East Africa Nations in the EAC Armed Forces Command Post Exercise CPX at the Rwandan Defence Forces Command and Staff College in Musanze in Rwanda.
The twelve-day joint exercise by the countries, dubbed Ushirikiano Imara 2023, is in accordance with the Protocol on Cooperation in Defence Affairs and pursuant to the EAC Defence Sector Calendar of activities for the period June to December 2022 and aims at enhancing the partner states’ Armed forces, Police, Civilian components and other stakeholder’s readiness and interoperability in responding to complex and multidimensional security challenges.
Participants will at the tail end of the course have the know how to conceptualize real war situations and guarantee proper manning of operation cells at various headquarters
In his address to the participants, EAC Secretary General HON (DR) Peter Mathuki through Maj. General Ally Katimbe emphasized the need to foster cooperation between the EAC member states through the military exercise so as to further peace operations within the region.
He further assured them of EACs continued commitment to consistently raise the training standards of the exercises as it will contribute to the overall capacity and performance of the regional Defence Forces in adapting to the ever changing technological advances and tackling the dynamic security challenges.
In attendance were the Vice Chief of Defence Forces (VCDF) Lt. General Jonah Mwangi and the Assistant Chief of Defence Forces Personnel and Logistics (ACDF OPD&T) Maj. General Fredrick Leuria among other General Officers, Officers, Service members and other participants.
