The Principal Secretary for Defence Mr. Patrick Mariru has today presided over the 38th graduation ceremony of the Joint Command and Staff College (JCSC) held at the college’s graduation grounds in Karen, Nairobi.
The course 38-2022/2023 attracted a total of 61 participants, 43 of whom were drawn from Kenya while 18 were drawn from allied countries. The course participants were taken through 47 weeks of rigorous training in Professional/Military modules and the Defence and Strategic Studies/Academic modules leading to the award of a Postgraduate and Ordinary Diploma in Defence and Strategy.
Speaking during the occasion the PS congratulated the course participants for successfully completing the course adding that it marked a crucial milestone in their military careers.
Mr. Mariru additionally appreciated the Commandant of the College, Major General, Eric Kinuthia and the entire college fraternity for steering the participants towards the right path in their military careers.
The PS further commended KDF leadership for their commitment in gender mainstreaming at all levels evident in the current course participants which is the largest in the college’s history where 9 of which were female officers.
He noted with appreciation the rich blend of participants from Asia and Africa at large, saying that their participation fosters cooperation, collaboration and synergy among global partners in addressing current and complex issues that ensured sustainable peace, stability and socio-economic development.
The PS reiterated that the Ministry of Defence’s commitment to prioritising the expansion and modernisation of learning facilities in all learning institutions in order to meet the growing demand.
On the same platform, the Vice Chief of the Defence Forces Lieutenant General Jonah Mwangi, congratulated the graduands for the hardwork and dedication that they had put in throughout the duration of the course which culminated to the auspicious occasion.
The VCDF highlighted that the rich blend of participants had enabled them to learn from each other and established networks that will come in handy as they grow in the Defence and security sector.
He further emphasised the need for participants to apply the knowledge and skills learnt, urging them to remain mindful of the changes in security trends, which he observed changed more often and avoid complacency.
During the ceremony the PS who was the chief guest awarded 6 outstanding participants in the course. Lieutenant Colonel Andrew Isongo Munyao stood out as the best overall student, while Lieutenant Colonel Grace Akinyi Ajierh was the Best In Commandants Service Paper.
