In preparation for the upcoming Madaraka Day celebrations, parade personnel comprising the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and a host of other security agencies took part in a tree planting exercise at Camp Ndunda within Njukiri Forest in Embu County. The security agencies that took part include the National Police Service, Kenya Coast Guard Services, Kenya Wildlife Service, Kenya Forestry Service, National Youth Service and the Embu County Law Enforcement Units among others.
The exercise which saw 3000 trees planted was facilitated by the Embu County Government as a way of giving back to the local community and also in keeping with the presidential vision of a sustainable greener future.
Spearheading the drive was Embu County Governor, H.E Hon. Cecily Mbarire who welcomed and thanked the security agencies for their support as her county prepares for the upcoming celebrations.
“I am very happy to be hosting you all here this year and I’m impressed with how you have conducted and carried yourselves in your line of duty. I am even more impressed with the gender inclusion that I have seen so far and I would encourage and advocate for more women to venture into the disciplined forces and work their way through the ranks and attain those higher leadership levels,” she said
Overseeing this year’s Madaraka Day Parade preparations was the Commander 4th Brigade, Brigadier Jattani Gula who took the opportunity to thank the local leadership and community for their warm welcome and hospitality to the security agencies taking part in the celebrations. He also lauded the tree-planting exercise as critical towards environmental conservation. He was accompanied by Parade Commander Lt Col Nyamooh Kasaine among other security officers.
Also, at the occasion were local leaders including Manyatta Constituency area MP Hon John Gitonga Mukunji among others.
