The Deputy Commander Sector II, Colonel Safe Adan early this week presided over the closing Ceremony of the Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) course at Level II Hospital situated at Sector II Headquarters Dhobley. The course enables students to prevent loss of life from combat injuries.
The month long training conducted in collaboration with Bancroft Global involved 100 personnel from the ATMIS II KDF troops and the Somalia Security Force (SSF), who received both theory and field training.
TCCC is a crucial initial emergency medical intervention taken by soldiers, either individually or collectively, in cases of combat injuries to prevent further injury or loss of life.
During the closing ceremony, the Deputy Commander expressed his confidence that the training had equipped the participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to handle combat and non-combat emergencies both on the battlefield and in everyday life. He emphasized that the joint training provided an opportunity for capacity building for the SSF, which is part of the ATMIS mandate. He also noted that joint training would enhance the integration of skills between the SSF and the friendly forces, thereby increasing belief and trust during joint operations.
The Commandant Dhobley Level II Hospital, Lieutenant Colonel Juma Omar, addressed the graduates, stating that they had gained the knowledge, skills, and confidence required to handle combat casualties, which is essential for individual and collective survival. He urged them to share their skills with their fellow troops within the sector.
According to the Senior Medical Officer, Major (Dr) Stanley Nganga, 90% of combat casualty victims die before reaching the hospital due to massive bleeding or breathing complications. TCCC focuses on addressing this challenge, which will be critical in saving the lives of injured soldiers during combat.
