The Commander Kenya Air Force (KAF), Major General John Omenda, and officers from KAF are participating in the 12th African Air Chiefs Symposium (AACS) in Darkar, Senegal, hosted by Senegalese Air Force.
The week long symposium brings together African Air Chiefs who are members of the Association of African Air Forces (AAAF) and features a diverse range of workshops as well as cultural activities.
AACS is intended to foster effective military relationships between participating nations and presents a unique opportunity to confront key challenges that threaten a stable and prosperous Africa.
This year’s theme is focused on African Air Forces tackling the fight against transnational threats. The discussions include: establishment of African Air Mobility Wing, Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR), African Partnership Flight, Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response, establishment of a Multi-National Cooperation Cell, African State Partnership Programme and Women Peace and Security. On the sidelines, the Air Chiefs will engage in bilateral talks aimed at strengthening cooperation.
AACS 2023 has 38 participating nations which include: Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eswatini, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritania, Morocco, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria, Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Zambia, Uganda and the United States
AACS was established in 2011 and is hosted each year by a different member of the Association of African Air Forces. Kenya Air Force had the privilege to host the event in 2019.
