Defence Principal Secretary, Patrick Mariru has today hosted officials from the United States at the Defence Headquarters, where they held substantive engagement on building the capacity of the civilian component of the Ministry to enable them to discharge their support and oversight roles more effectively and efficiently.
The forum aimed at identifying priority areas of training that would enable the civilian component to provide support and quality advice to the uniformed personnel.
Among the areas identified during the meeting were, Strategic Leadership, Ethics and Governance, Peace Support Operations, negotiation skills on military contracts and civilian oversight of Defence Forces among others.
The PS affirmed that plans to develop the Defence-Civilian Policy were at an advanced stage adding that benchmarking on civil-military relations is crucial in providing quality service in support of the Defence Forces.
The forum precedes a one-week workshop between MoD Departmental Heads and US officials to develop goals and come up with an outcome that shall ensure the success of capacity-building programs focused on civilian components.
During the meeting, the PS was accompanied by the Director Human Resource Management and Development Dr. Lilian Nzavi, Senior Chief Finance Officer Joseph Mutuma and Director of Public Communication Bogita Ongeri.
