The Kenya Signal Company (KENSIG-1 Coy) personnel who form part of the Kenya Defence Forces troops deployed under United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO), have completed training conducted by the MONUSCO Field Technology System (FTS), at Regie Des Voices Aerienne (RVA) Camp, in Goma, DRC.
The training focused on acquainting the troops with the necessary Communication and Information Systems (CIS) skills required to execute different tasks in the Mission area and to enhance communication interoperability.
Speaking during the closing ceremony of the training, the MONUSCO Chief of FTS, Madam Francia Parelta, expressed her appreciation to the United Nations C41SR Academy for Peace Operations and the participants for their dedication and focused engagement throughout the training.
While welcoming the new team to MONUSCO, Madam Francia urged the soldiers to utilize the available UN opportunities and platforms to learn.
Force Chief U6, Lt Col Mohammad Siddiqui, on his part expressed gratitude to all the trainees acknowledging the fact they are fresh minds and the training will enable them fulfill their assigned tasks from time to time.
“The knowledge and skills you have acquired here will be useful while serving not only in MONUSCO, but also in your country after your tour of duty in DRC.” he said.
The Officer Commanding KENSIG-1 Coy Maj D Omaore thanked all the stakeholders who played role in facilitating the training citing the skills gained during the training period will go a long way in assisting the troops to effectively discharge their assigned duties. He once again reiterated the company’s commitment to achieve its mandate.
The participants were drawn from different platoons including Communication and Information Technology Support, Strategic Link Support and Communication Center Support platoons.
KENSIG-1 Coy is a pioneer Company deployed under MONUSCO to provide Communication, Connectivity and Information Technology services to the Mission and the Force.
