The Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF), General Charles Kahariri, today visited the ongoing construction of the Talanta Sports City Project, a 60,000-seat stadium being built at Jamhuri Grounds in Nairobi. The inspection aimed to evaluate the progress of the project’s infrastructure development. The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), under the Ministry of Defence, is supervising the construction.
Upon arrival, General Kahariri was given a comprehensive briefing on the project. He then toured the site, guided by officers from the Defence Headquarters Infrastructure Branch, to observe the ongoing construction. He expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far and affirmed his confidence that the stadium will meet its targeted completion date of December 2025.
The Talanta Sports City, along with the upgrades to Kasarani, Nyayo, and Kipchoge Keino Stadia, is being supervised by the Ministry of Defence as Kenya prepares to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in partnership with Tanzania and Uganda under the Pamoja East Africa initiative.
General Kahariri commended the achievements so far and encouraged the contractors to continue delivering a world-class facility that aligns with the international standards set by FIFA. He expressed his confidence that the project would meet its deadline.
“I am pleased with the ongoing construction works and I commend you all for your excellent work. I am confident we will meet the December 2025 deadline with the high standards we are known for,” he stated.
