COMMANDER KENYA AIR FORCE
Maj Gen John Mugaravai Omenda was promoted to the rank of Major General and appointed Kenya Air Force Commander on 23 July 2021.
Maj Gen John M Omenda Joined Kenya Air Force on 23 May 1991 and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant on 14 August 1992. He trained as a fighter pilot and has trained in other fields including Intelligence, Security and flight safety.
Maj Gen John M Omenda is a graduate of Defence Staff College of Kenya and Royal College of Defence Studies, UK. He holds a Diploma in Strategic Studies from University of Nairobi, Bachelor of Arts in Peace and Conflict studies from Nazarene University and Master of Arts in International Security and Strategy from Kings College, London.
Maj Gen John M Omenda was promoted to the rank of Brigadier and appointed Base Commander, Laikipia Air Base on 13 July 2018 and later appointed Deputy Air Force Commander on 30 April 2020. Previously he has held various appointments in Training, Command and Staff including Deputy Base Commander Laikipia Air Base, Officer Commanding No. 15 Squadron, Flight Commander Operations No. 15 Squadron, Pilot No. 15 Squadron and Hawk Squadron Pilot.
He also served in United Nations Mission in Liberia from 2006 to 2007.
He is married to Hellen, blessed with four children. His hobbies include reading and playing golf.
